Maca

Maca is a tough, hearty root vegetable that grows high in the Andes in Peru. Maca is found above 14,500 feet above sea level and appears to have been cultivated by ancient Andean cultures. Maca is interesting in that it's the only food plant known that grows in such an extreme environment, in rich soil but with extremely cold temperatures and thin, oxygen-poor air. Maca is packed with trace elements and contains substantial amounts of such minerals as magnesium, phosphorus, iron, zinc, vitamin B1, B2, B12, C, E, riboflavin, thiamin and ascorbic acid

Maca is both nourishing as a food and has some impressive effects on energy and sexual desire.

What does maca do?

The libido- and fertility-boosting powers of maca are well-known in the Peruvian highlands. When a couple are having trouble achieving a pregnancy, they eat maca regularly until they conceive. The powerful sterols and alkaloids seem to function as a powerful stimulant for most people. For women, maca reduces PMS and the negative conditions associated with menstruation.

Men experience a vast increase in erection stamina and libido when taking maca. In addition, there are indications that maca is an effective treatment for impotence and erectile dysfunction (especially when combined with yohimbe).

Has any research been done on maca?

Maca has a very limited body of research associated with it. Dr. Gloria Chacon de Popovici, a biologist who has extensively studied maca, has published her discoveries on the composition of maca. But the effects of maca and its aphrodisiac and sexual effects are primarily based on its traditional uses in Peru.

Side effects of maca

Maca has no known negative side effects associated with it. In fact, in Peru it's used as a food. That's how safe it is.

Is maca an effective ingredient?

We think so. Maca doesn't have as extensive a body of research associated with it, but its traditional uses (and anecdotal evidence) suggest that maca is an especially effective ingredient in penis enlargement and in sexual enhancers. Maca is even more powerful when combined with yohimbe.
